Orlen: Web development

task

01

In autumn 2025, Orlen launched a new campaign under the slogan “Tomorrow’s energy starts today”. For this campaign, we built a brand website rich in animations, showcasing the company’s largest investments. The TWIN agency brought us on board to help bring their concept, UI, and 3D animations to life.

The questions we faced:

  • How to ensure that the 3D animations supplied in Spline didn’t slow down the website?
  • How best to implement the website’s unconventional mechanics (more on this below)?
  • What security requirements do we need to meet?

The website’s navigation is scroll-based. Each scroll reveals a new category of Orlen’s investments (accompanied by a separate custom animation and a shared transition animation).

When scrolling to the edges of the screen, which form a frame around the main content, the following are available:

  • all investment categories in the bottom navigation bar,
  • a promotional video that slides out from behind the screen,
  • a ‘Back to Home’ option upon clicking the logo,
  • and the privacy policy.

Initially, the concept did not include navigating the site via scrolling. Discovering subsequent categories was intended to work, as in classic navigation, by clicking. When, in line with the schedule, we began testing, we were asked if we could implement scroll-based navigation by the original deadline. We did! 😀

An additional challenge proved to be synchronising the unusual animations with the cookie management plugin (Cookiebot by Usercentrics). The plugin was generating errors that required additional rules to ensure the site functioned correctly and complied with legal requirements. As a company of significant importance to the national economy, the client has a rigorous cybersecurity policy. Consequently, once the development and testing work was complete, the files containing the website underwent Orlen’s security tests. Naturally, they passed these tests flawlessly, and the website went live on schedule, to the satisfaction of all three parties involved in the project.
